The Best Side Dish
Memaw’s deviled eggs are a special treat that my oldest daughter has made with my mom for as long as I can remember. Now my daughter makes them better than I do, and everyone in the family always wants to criticize whether or not my eggs taste like my mom’s when I make them. You can never get them as good as mom’s, but you can try. And mine come super close – don’t listen to the haters!
These eggs are so delicious, and if you don’t like hard-boiled eggs typically, you may surprise yourself. Also, if you are making these for a family gathering, bring your happy hands. They will disappear fast, so don’t sleep on grabbing an egg or two. It’s almost like they are little pizza slices they go so fast. It sounds weird, but it’s true.
Ingredients
Mom always used Salad Dressing from Food Lion but is impossible to find these days. Mayonnaise is the next best thing. We are relish fanatics but feel free to leave it out if you find it repulsive. Memaw’s deviled eggs are also sweet, so adjust the sugar as desired.
The ingredients are simple and if you have kids around who are eager to help cook, this is a great recipe to get them engaged. After the eggs are cool, kids can do all the measuring, mixing, and filling. Deviled eggs remind us of mom, or Memaw as the kids would say. It’s a special recipe we will always treasure because it carries with it so many memories of standing in her kitchen and learning how to cook by her side. I have no doubt that every time my daughter makes these eggs, she will remember how much she loved her grandma and how much she was loved in return.
