Corner Market BBQ
Your eyes are not deceiving you. There is an actual fake alien in the front of that old car, which I never spotted until I was driving away. Note this for your visit in case you want a nice photo opportunity with the alien or the UFO. I mean, a UFO at a BBQ joint? You might need to go – at least once in your life.
Corner Market BBQ was a nice surprise in the middle of nowhere for a car full of hungry kids. These kids, I should mention, don’t eat BBQ but our options were limited so we pulled in to this place shining like a beacon on a hill at a stoplight. Thankfully, they had chicken tenders and fries as well.
Lunch in the Sunshine
We were traveling with our little dog, so it was great to find a place where we could eat outside. We had lunch in the sunshine and enjoyed the character and charm of the restaurant. There was a spot with goldfish swimming that grabbed the girls’ attention. The folks were super friendly. I actually made a new friend in the line who eased my nerves about moving to the area. While waiting for our orders, this nice lady gave the girls and I tips on fun things to do. She dished on the schools, and all I can say is that I hope I see her the next time we go.
My barbecue was pretty good. I wasn’t sure about the sauce since I’m from Eastern North Carolina, so they put it in a small cup for me. I ended up pouring all of it on! The coleslaw reminded me of my mama’s, made fresh by hand with a slight sweetness, and I loved it. I cannot tell you what was in the fritter because I don’t know, but it was different and delicious and I ate it all. My oldest daughter decided to order her wings plain (as pictured). Try them sauced instead! A visit to Corner Market’s Facebook page makes me think ribs are the rage, so those and the hot dogs will be on the list for a future visit. I don’t even eat ribs, but they look so good I surely will.
Visiting Corner Market BBQ
Stop in Friday, Saturday, or Sunday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. You’ll find the Best BBQ at Corner Market here: 22902 Cox Road in Petersburg, Virginia (North Dinwiddie County). I heard from my new friend in the line that it can get very busy at times. The line grew quickly when we were there, but our food still came up fast. For “authentic wood-fired VA BBQ” this is the place you need to go. Check out more details on the Corner Market BBQ website or Facebook page.
