Richlands Dairy & Creamery
If you are looking for a new adventure with delicious ice cream, Richlands Dairy & Creamery is the place. I love how they have a back porch where you can sit, rock, and relax while your kids or grandkids play. The playground was a nice surprise. We headed in that direction for the ice cream!
Richlands is a 3rd generation family-owned dairy located in Dinwiddie, Virginia that specializes in bottled milk and ice cream. If you want to see their cows, note that you have to schedule a tour ahead of time. My youngest daughter really wants to tour, but there are also fun filled day events planned throughout the year. During an event, you can experience a petting zoo or other fun options without having to make a reservation. For example, they recently had “Cowboys and Ice Cream – Frontier Days” with Wild West gunfights.
Even if you go on a day with no event, plan to stay for awhile. The girls did not want to leave the playground. Richlands also has a small, but super cute, gift shop with reasonable prices.
Must Try Ice Cream
I went with classic strawberry and it was so good! But guess what was even better? The waffle cone made right in front of me that was still warm when it was put into my hand. Yes, the ice cream was dripping a bit from the warmth of the cone. This was the best waffle cone I have ever eaten in my entire life! If you want more variety, there are plenty of fun flavors offered weekly. Check out Banana Pudding, Honey Zinger, and Cotton Candy Swirl. Seasonal flavors include Pineapple Cream, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Maple Sweet Potato Dream. Be brave and try the “Bourbon Cow Pie,” which includes chocolate ice cream, bourbon walnuts, rum pecans, and a swirl of maple syrup.
Did You Know?
Did you know that for every 10 gallons of milk sold, Richlands Dairy & Creamery donates 1 gallon of milk to a family in need or local food bank? You can enjoy their fresh milk knowing you are a part of some seriously awesome community investment.
There is also a restaurant in Richlands! Hours are Thursday-Sunday from 11-5. “The Rustic Kitchen” serves Homemade Soup like Chili & Cornbread, Chicken & Dumplings, Garlic & Chive Potato, and Roasted Vegetable. They also have Rustic Rounds (in a homemade crust) like Beef & Onion, Chicken & Rice, Maple-Honey Roasted Squash, and Potato & Cheese. Prices are reasonable and you can find the full menu with sides, specials, and homemade pies on their Facebook page.
