Mason's Grill & Smokehouse

Family Friendly

Located on Burnetts Way in Suffolk, Virginia, this small restaurant packs big flavor into its dishes. Mason’s Grill & Smokehouse is locally owned and welcomes families. We visited on a Saturday, early afternoon, and the atmosphere was laid back and casual. If you haven’t been yet, add this to your to-do list! There is a pool table, music, and an opportunity for bathroom selfies if you’re into those.

Appetizers & More

We started out with Onion Tanglers and there was not a crumb left on the plate. Make sure you ask for the spicy ranch. Next up, the girls went for their usual chicken tenders. They were very excited when the kids meals came out on Frisbees they could take home. I wasn’t sure what to order. The menu is not extensive, but has good variety. I decided to get a side salad. Most side salads are just good and nothing to brag about, but this was different. Everything in the salad tasted so fresh that I got my husband to try it, and he agreed. It was delicious.

I was admittedly a little scared when I ordered Goldie’s Chicken Salad Sliders, but I decided to be brave. You know chicken salad can be hit or miss and this was chicken salad with a glow up. The appetizer tray comes with three potato roll sliders. The chicken salad is topped with bacon and hot honey. It was a cool mix of flavors. I would order it again, but plan to try the Route 10 Smoked Brisket & Pork Nachos or the Blackened Tuna Tacos the next time I go.

Beef Brisket

My husband got the Beef Brisket. The menu describes it as, “Nebraska Hereford beef brisket,
dry rubbed and slow smoked.” I didn’t try the brisket, but he said it was really good. It comes with a bunch of different sauces you can try. For sides, he went with Baked Beans and Seasoned Collards. I snuck a bite of the beans. I’m not a baked beans person and I would never order them at a restaurant…until I tasted these. They were fantastic. I realize I’m just talking about beans – trust me! Like so much at Mason’s, they are homemade and you can tell the difference.

For dessert, get the banana pudding. It comes in a plastic container with a lid so you can take it to go like we did if you want to. The container is enough for 2 people but go ahead and treat yourself. You can eat it all at once or eat some and have enough for a midnight snack or your next day dessert.

You can even call ahead and order some selections to go by the pint or quart, like macaroni, jalapeño pimento cheese, those yummy baked beans, and more. Check out the website to see if Mason’s Grill & Smokehouse is the place for you.

Somehow my comments were not notifying me and I am just now seeing this one! We need to go back to Mason’s again sometime. It would be so cool to go when Ms. Shelia is there! The girls always love to see her.
